At the Playground

Peanut amazes me nowadays - not just with his language capabilities, but his independence and confidence.

Didn't seem that long ago when he could only manage single words (started with dada at 8 months, then mama, moo-moo, woof, more, mer (for milk), duck, bao bao, nai-nai, yima, popo, yeye), to stringing 2 words (big car), to understanding concepts (big v small), to colours, numbers, letters and now forming his sentences and counting, narrating events, carrying on conversations. It's so overwhelming.

He has been into pretend play since about 18 m.o but of late he's been playing doll with his Elmo stuff toy - feeding him milk, sleeping with him, feeding him medicine, etc. This happened a couple of weeks back. It was one of those nights where he lingered in the living room and refused to go to bed. To be fair, he's good on most nights with his night/wind-down routine.

M: It's bedtime. Look it's 10 o'clock (Associated meaning: past bedtime). See, Elmo is tired and is already sleeping on the sofa.
CY walked towards Elmo and bent over.
CY: Elmo, you want to sleep papa bed?
Elmo (alias CY): Don't want
CY: You want to sleep mama bed?
Elmo: Ok
CY: Come, let's go. I open door.

The other night, I asked if he had been a good boy and he replied,

"CY cry, stand corner; CY da (hit in mandarin) didi, stand corner; CY pull mama hair, stand corner." Flabbergasted ... and totally amused.
