What a horrible ...

It's incredible, but true. It happened last Saturday morning. Peanut was sitting on the sofa with his feet sticking out, watching some cartoon on TV. I was packing the bag, getting ready for our weekly marketing.

Then I observed Sweet Potato walked towards the sofa - can't explain this to you, but mothers (and fathers too) had this knack, somehow, of knowing that something was going to happen even when everything looks perfectly normal. It was totally innocuous the way he behaved, nothing stealthy about it. He just walked up and positioned his behind strategically inches in front of Peanut's feet, held his brother's foot and brought it to touch his rear. He let go of the foot, turned around and walked towards me with a sulking face and tears welling up, "Mama, gor-gor beat me."

Tell me, should I be worried?

Art Garden @ SAM

23 May 2010

It's the inaugural Children's Season at the Singapore Art Museum at 8Q - an art exhibition showcasing art works inspired by plants, trees and the forests especially catered to young children, isn't that wonderful? It's been on since mid-May and will be ending this Sunday.

Meet Walter - balloon sculpture of a rabbit by Dawn Ng at the front of the building.

Titled "Floribots" - featuring the life cycle of giant robot flowers that 'grow' from buds into full blooms:

Exploring in the Enchanted Forest, wall to wall paintings with 3D trees, butterflies and hanging spiders:

Daisies everywhere - step and make them disappear:

Making the trees grow and catching fireflies in the Funky Forest, it was magical:

We even watched a short local film at the exhibition - a rather touching story on how a father tried to reach out to his school-going son who has isolated himself since the death of his mother. Well, that death bit - it's my deduction since there was no mention of it but just a scene from the boy's dream of his mother hanging out the laundry and telling him that he was all his father had left. No, no it was not a melodramatic film. As a matter of fact, it was rather funny - the father's clumsy approach to talk to his son; the boy playing with a pair of briefs pulled over his head; the Hokkien-speaking grandma urging the boy's father to be patient like how she would fry a fish. The director chose a refreshingly light approach to tackle a difficult emotional situation.
The boys had so much fun - S.P actually asked to visit again when he saw the ad on TV last week, almost 2 months since we were there.

The Official Superheroes Day

2 July 2010

Finally, they get to wear their favourite get-up to school.

Can't find Sweet Potato in this photo? Well, he is the only one whose face is masked :

Didn't you know? Batman has 2 girlfriends:

Hey, even Batman has to attend classes:

The day 4 Spiderman (Spidermen?) rescued a damsel in distress (Peanut is the first from left):

Spiderman unmasked or if you like, Spiderman trying to figure out how to wear his mask:

Different Strokes

He eats to live, rather he needs to be persuaded to eat to live. But is relatively chubby.
The other will drop whatever he is playing instantly when given food. But is rather skinny.

He prefers Western food.
The other NEEDS his rice and soups.

He takes small bites and chews his food thoroughly. Rarely finishes the food on the plate.
The other chomps down his food and has to be reminded to chew. Rarely leaves any crumbs behind.

He likes to laze in bed.
The other doesn't like to sleep and wakes up with zest.

He is shy.
The other pretends to be shy.

He smells sweet.
The other stinks with sweat and saliva. Yucks.

He looks you in the eye and listens to your teaching.
The other looks away and stubbornly contradicts your teaching (but is in fact absorbing your teaching).

He will not wonder too far off and often checks that you are within sight.
The other will not hesitate to venture and does not care if you are there.

He takes care not to get hurt physically and bawls at minor cuts.
The other is carefree, gets bruised all over but sheds not a tear.

He finds comfort and security in his pillow.
The other lugs around a teddy bear as a fashion statement (others, namely Mr Bean and Spot sleep with one).

And yes, they are both our sons and we love them just as much.
